The Facts

📋

Core Requirements

To renew your visa, you must stay up to date with your tax obligations in Spain, whether you are considered a tax resident or non-resident, and keep evidence of the corresponding tax payments. You do not need to live in Spain for at least 183 days per year to renew the visa.

Deadline

File 60 days before your TIE expires; late filing (up to 90 days after) risks fines or rejection

🎯

Key Benefit

Family documents and your criminal record don't need to be re-submitted — your TIE and originals are used instead

Which Process Applies to You?

Not every DNV holder is filing a "renewal" in the strict legal sense. It depends on where your original authorization was granted.

Type A: Renewal Type B: First Authorization from Spain
Applies when Your initial DNV was granted by the UGE, and you're now renewing it Your DNV visa was issued by a consulate abroad, and this is your first residence authorization filed from within Spain
Legal classification Renewal (Renovación) Treated as an Initial authorization (Inicial) — not a renewal, even though it follows your visa
UGE portal sub-option "Titular de Autorización de Residencia en Movilidad Internacional" "Titular de Visado de Inversor/Teletrabajador" (no TIE yet) or "Titular de Residencia en España" (if you already have a TIE)
Fee type Renewal fee (Tasa Renovación) Initial fee (Tasa Inicial) — not the renewal fee
Criminal record Not re-requested — your TIE card is uploaded instead Same as your initial application, plus your TIE if you have one
Filing deadline 60 days before your TIE expires Must be lodged within 60 days before your visa's expiry — filing immediately upon arrival is no longer permitted
Family/spouse documents Spouse or partner provides a sworn declaration (declaración jurada) confirming the relationship continues — no need to update supporting documents Same as initial application requirements

Applications are filed through the UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas). We prepare and submit your file there using your authorization — we don't operate that portal, and it isn't ours.

The Process

How It Works

  1. 01

    Confirm Your Renewal Type

We review your situation and confirm whether you need a Renewal (Type A) or an Initial authorization (Type B), along with the correct fee and application category.

  2. 02

    We Prepare Your Renewal-Specific File

This time, the amount of documentation required is significantly lower. We will also take care of the DNV visa fee and the required sworn translations as part of the service.

  3. 03

    We Submit With Your Authorization

We submit the application through the UGE portal on your behalf and then wait for the resolution, which can take up to 20 business days.

Why Bureaucracy Is Different

We Get the Application Type Right

Filing as a Renewal when you actually need an Initial authorization (or the reverse) means the wrong fee and the wrong document set. We confirm your type before we file anything.

Perfect Timeline

We take care of the entire timeline and submission process to help ensure that your residency is renewed smoothly and without issues.

No Duplicate Paperwork

Family documents and criminal record checks from your first application don't need to be redone. We reuse what's still valid instead of asking you to start over.

Real-Time Dashboard Tracking

Every document, message, and milestone lives in one place, so you always know what's done and what's still needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the deadline to file my DNV renewal?

You can file up to 60 days before your TIE expires. Filing late — up to 90 days after expiry — is possible but risks fines or rejection, so we recommend filing within the standard window wherever possible.

Do I need new criminal record checks?

No — your TIE card is proof enough to submit the DNV renewal.

Does my family need to resubmit their documents?

Generally no. Family documents from your first application don't need to be re-translated or resubmitted — originals are used. If you have a spouse or partner, they'll need to provide a sworn declaration confirming the relationship continues, but it doesn't need to be a newly updated document.

What's the difference between a "renewal" and an "initial authorization" if I already have a DNV visa?

It depends on where your original visa was granted. If the UGE granted your original Digital Nomad authorization and you're extending it, that's a standard renewal. If you received your DNV visa from a consulate abroad and this is the first residence authorization you're filing from inside Spain, that's legally treated as an Initial authorization, not a renewal — different fee, different application category. We confirm which applies to you before filing.

Am I still eligible if I've spent a lot of time outside Spain this year?

You are eligible for renewal as long as you comply with your tax obligations in Spain, whether you are considered a tax resident or non-resident. The most important thing is that you have properly filed your taxes in Spain and kept up with your Social Security payments, where applicable. You do not need to spend 183 days in Spain each year to renew your visa.

Our service fee covers case management, document review, and included sworn translations only — any government or consular fees are separate and paid directly by the client to the relevant authority.
